The integration of the old Spanish colony to the Republic of Haiti took place without the firing of a single shot, because it counted on the support of the majority of its settlers, except for the small white colonial aristocracy and certain influential priests for those who it was a robust blow. Immediately the slavery was abolished, the society of the East of the island of Santo Domingo gave beginning to an effective process of racial integration. Blacks and mulatos jumped of the categories but low - enslaved and libertos vejados and discriminated against the steps but elevated of the social pyramid, and suddenly the political power, as much the policeman as the power station, was distributed taking into account the ethnic composition from the population. The reaction of minority the Creole and Spanish aristocracy white was immediate and began with one hurried emigration towards Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, where they initiated conspirative projects that agreed with the French plans of the recovery of their old colony.
